Art Contest for Creative Kids May 2014 Winners!

Thank you everyone for participating! You artworks and efforts were fantastic and very much appreciated by our judges. Of these, we struggled to choose the three artworks that best represented the topic "The Value of Expression" clearly and creatively, but we are now ready to announce our winners!

First Place:
Monica Myers (12) from Colorado Springs

From her writing about the artwork:
The value of expression is all about being who you are. It is very important to express how you feel so that you don't pretend to be somebody you are not. When you are yourself, people can like you for who you really are. You can express who you are and how you feel by the type of clothes you wear, by the way you style your hair, by playing music, writing, or singing. You can even express yourself through your artwork. That is what I did. I was feeling very happy when I made my piece, so I used my hand to represent me and lots of color to represent the happiness I was feeling. To me, the value of expression is being yourself no matter what.

2nd Place:
Erica Lim (12) from Oradell

From her writing about the artwork:
“The Value Of Expression” means to be able to express ourselves so I can be the best “me” that I can be. I have met many kinds’ people in the world. Every one of them is different in some ways, but same in others. We learn from others likes and dislikes. For an example take your best friend. You most likely learned a lot from her/him picked up his/her habits neither bad and good, but you both are not the same but at the same time alike. That is why the value of expression is so important, we learn from each person’s uniqueness. My drawing shows the importance of showing your individuality, because one way or another it helps everyone and contributes to society as a whole.

3rd Place:
Kayla Samuel (12) from Oradell

From her writing about her work:
Expression is what makes us ourselves and not your neighbor, your sister, brother, or friend. I thought about the world without expression and saw a brown arid place with tumbleweeds rolling around, a place that had been deserted, chewed up and spit out. Then I thought of  our world now the one with expression. What makes your best friend your best friend? It is their expression that makes them themselves and not the person who pushes past you in the hallway. So if we all didn't have expression we would all just be robots. So I made the kids wanting their expressions back.

I Made the greedy King steal all the expression because it is the most valuable thing in the world. The children are all sad that they no longer have their expression. Expression is so valuable and if you take it away everybody will become robots.

The artworks and writing were judged not heavily on the composition and visual appearance, but more on the creativity and depth of idea. No names, age, gender, race, addresses were revealed during or after the judging process to prevent any bias. Votes considered unfair were removed.

Thank you all for your time and interest! Winners will receive the following prizes:
1st Place: iPad Mini
2nd Place: $75 Barnes & Noble's Gift Card
3rd Place: $50 Barnes & Noble's Gift Card

Winning Artworks of Autumn 2013

Winners and Artworks of Art Contest for Creative Kids

Here are our winning artists of Autumn 2013!

Rachel Kim from Demarest, NJ

From her writing about her work:
I wanted to show that  there are many ways to help the earth and give back to the environment, and I realized I wanted to not only illustrate one idea or concept but four. I also wanted to show that the four concepts drawn in my artwork were not separate ideas but one whole concept: earth conservation. So I drew lines on the paper to resemble a connected puzzle and each puzzle piece showed a different  earth conservation tips: recycling, community service, turning off water when you don't need it, and saving energy.

2nd Place
Lauren Kim from Oradell, NJ

From her writing about her work:
My work is about air pollution, global warming, water pollution, and land pollution.
The girl is spraying a 'Earth- cure' spray while riding an imaginary animal.
The girl portrays my intention to express what we need to do to conserve the Earth.
We must take charge of our planet and keep it clean. Our planet is vital to us and all living things.

3rd Place
Annie Seong from Hillsdale, NJ

From her writing about her work:
In my artwork for the Earth Conservation contest, I have decided to divide it into three sections.    The one on the left corner,  pictures a leaking faucet. I think of it as little specks of diamonds going through a black hole. You don't know how much you're wasting over there. The picture on the right-side corner, indicates a healthy tree ,providing oxygen which I drew as hearts. Finally, the one with the leaves, also represents the trees and pollution.  The pollution is the fire burning the environment one by one.

Congratulations to the winners!
Thank you everyone for participating! Keep being creative and save the date for our next contest in spring 2014!

Winners will be contacted soon to confirm that their prizes be shipped.

Congratulations Winners and Participants of 2013!

After thorough judging of all the submitted art works, 3 works were chosen as 1st and two runner up 2nd places winners! They were judged according to the technical use of medium, visual harmony, clear message and theme, as well as the writing that explained the piece and its significance. Artistic skills come with experience and age; hence, the judges tried to acknowledge the message and the creativity a little more than the technical aspects.

Well, fabulous job, all our young artists! Your artworks were beautiful and well communicated the theme of Earth Conservation!

The winners will receive awesome prizes:
An iPad Mini for the 1st Place winner
$100 Barnes & Nobles gift cards for the two runner ups

And their works will be featured as Earth Conservation posters during the Drug Free NJ concert's art auction held in Spring 2014, as well as on this blog. The winners' works and profiles will be featured soon.

Thank you all for learning and thinking about sustaining our planet. And we hope that you earned something from this experience! Keep being creative and caring!

Fundraiser 2013

So, the last entry was submitted, and the artworks are ready to be reviewed tomorrow, October 18th, 2013! Well done everyone!

And just a little summary on our adventures since summer until now...

The first Art Contest for Creative Kids...The organization has been like a new born creature, needy and time-consuming. Since summer 2013, we've been planning, organizing, and advertising the ACCK. Truthfully, it is still so premature, far, far away from being able to walk on its own; but we've taken baby steps, and hope to walk on.

For a group of students (aka. big-sized kids), it wasn't easy to come even this far. And sure, the process took away much time from our tightly-packed days and carved away at our precious hours of beauty sleep, but the experience was worthwhile and fun; it allowed us to work as a group of independent and creative leaders and to spread good cause. The past few months with the ACCK may have changed something inside ourselves as well. If anything was stressful at all, it was the fundraising; we wanted to reward the artists through our competition, but agreed that we didn't want to be those creepy door-knockers who come asking for your money at night. Hence, we came up with... candies! Which led to: selling snacks to the kids at our art studio, selling Halloween candies to parents, and making custom Halloween candy bags for class hand-outs. (below are some photos of the goodie bags we've made) And we're almost there! by the end of this month, we will have all the prizes (ipad mini and two $100 BN giftcards) ready to award to the winners!

Creativity is good
